Safari jeep watching elephants on an open plain in a Sri Lankan national park
Yala • Udawalawe • Wilpattu

Sri Lanka wildlife safaris

Leopards, elephant herds and sloth bears, with a jeep at the gate before sunrise.

Sri Lanka packs an extraordinary amount of wildlife into a small island. Yala has one of the highest leopard densities on earth, Udawalawe delivers wild elephants almost every single drive, and Wilpattu offers the same animals with a fraction of the jeep traffic.

We arrange the park transport, the jeep, the tracker and the permits, and we get you to the gate for opening rather than an hour after it. Morning drives start around 5am and afternoon drives run until the park closes at dusk.

First through the gate

Pre-dawn pick-ups so you are inside the park when the animals are still active and the light is good.

Experienced trackers

Drivers who work these parks daily and share sightings by radio rather than guessing.

Three parks, one operator

Yala for leopards, Udawalawe for elephants, Wilpattu for quiet. We will tell you which suits your dates.

Transfers and stays handled

Combine the safari with your transfer from Ella, Mirissa or Colombo and arrange a nearby lodge.

Common questions

Which park gives the best chance of seeing a leopard?

Yala, particularly Block 1, has the highest recorded leopard density in the world. Wilpattu is a close second and considerably quieter, which some visitors prefer.

What time does a safari start?

Morning drives leave your hotel around 4:30am to 5am to reach the gate as it opens. Afternoon drives usually leave around 2pm and finish at dusk.

Is a safari suitable for young children?

Yes, though the tracks are rough and a morning drive is a long stretch. Udawalawe is the gentler option and elephants are close to guaranteed.

Are park entrance fees included?

We quote you an all-in price that states clearly whether park fees and taxes are included, so there is nothing to settle at the gate.
